I always think to myself, how do you I choose my favorite time of year in the Lowcountry? But then I stop and listen to the many birds that sing their new songs, I smell the barbecue and fresh seafood everywhere I go and remember that summer is ripe with everything that I love about this piece of heaven. Around the country Memorial Day is the ultimate kick-off to summer when people start gathering for their pool parties, lavish events, boating with friends and family, and honoring the fallen military service members. June in the Lowcountry inspires destination Weddings (and all the pre-events that go along with them), tourists pouring into the area, outdoor dining, and so much more! What I also notice about June…the families that “keep” a summer house in the Lowcountry arrive. This is the modern south, after all. Yes, women still wear pearls, but they couple them with layers of the “in” necklace of the moment. And men may wear a button down, but they likely wear flip flops, even to dinner.

A Taste of the South

The culinary scene in the lowcountry is a celebration of Southern flavors and fresh, local ingredients. Summer in the lowcountry is the perfect time to savor some of the region’s signature dishes. Indulge in lowcountry boil, a flavorful medley of shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes steamed together with Old Bay seasoning. Don’t miss out on the region’s renowned seafood, from succulent oysters to juicy crab cakes. And of course, a refreshing glass of sweet tea or a cool, fruity cocktail is a must for beating the summer heat.
